Arbitration and Mediation

Sylvia Dalton-Duggleby`
Principal -Optimal Dispute Resolution

Sylvia is a qualified Arbitrator and Mediator specialised in resolving Commercial and Civil disputes, based in West Sussex and  covering Southeast England.
For 20 years I was principal director of a Consulting Engineering practice. I have worked as a lead project engineer on projects throughout Ireland often in charge of up to 300 contractors and design engineers. These projects varied in size and type, from design and build pharmaceutical & electronic plants, to leisure centres and food processing plants.

I was responsible from initial client brief to start-up of the facilities. I had a reputation for delivering projects on time and within budget. Due to the varied nature of the projects I learned to think on my feet, and quickly attain a good understanding of the projects. I am a very decisive person with a high level of people management skills, which are essential for a project manager.

In 1997 I sold my interest in the Consulting Engineering Company and started working voluntarily with people with learning difficulties. I studied and received the Hornsby International Diploma for assessing and teaching pupils with specific learning difficulties, which is recognised worldwide.
In 2002, I was awarded a Bachelor's Degree(Honours) Science by Open University.
During 2003, I was asked to negotiate in a dispute between contractors on a building project. This led to further requests to act as a negotiator/arbitrator on other commercial disputes.
In 2004 I was awarded an MA from the Dublin Business School.
Subsequently, I completed the Higher Diploma in Arbitration at University College Dublin, which is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators for fellowship exam exemption.
I have also been awarded an MSc in Psychology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Sciences from the Open University.
I have successfully completed the Generic Mediation training course accredited by the Mediation Institute of Ireland. The focus on that mediation (MII) course was mainly on divorce, separation, and family disputes.
I have also successfully completed the Commercial/Civil Mediation with ADR and Friarylaw.
I am a member of CMC (Civil Mediation Council)
Today I work as an independent mediator and arbitrator.
